Thursday, June 9, 2011 · Noon - 3:00 pm Sponsored By: TNNA Room: C114 Admission: Member $50.00 ~ Non-Member $70.00 Speaker: Leslye Solomon
There's nothing wrong with the American/English method of knitting, which requires winding with your right hand; however, you and your customers, whether right or left-handed, will benefit from knitting faster and with fewer imperfections. As yarn smoothly dispenses from your left hand, you will be able to seed stitch or rib with only a slight turn of the wrist. In this three-hour class, new and experienced knitters will begin knitting using this more ergonomic, faster and potentially pain-reducing method. During the practice and instruction to achieve the technique, you'll begin to understand the benefits for you and your store.
Students should bring: Aran weight smooth light color wool and size 9 needles, one black pen with a roller-type tip.

(Includes break from 11 am to 2 pm)
Sponsored By: TNNA Room: C124 Admission: Member $80.00 ~ Non-Member $100.00 Speaker: Sally Melville
Most of us are self-taught. And no matter how advanced and accomplished we are, there are holes in our experience. Perhaps we rely upon the same cast-on, the same increase, the same decrease. Perhaps we are not confident of our seaming or are confounded by the instruction to pick up and knit 101 stitches around the neck edge ... evenly! This workshop explores the best methods that we should all have in our repertoire. We'll talk about which choices are best suited to each situation and why.
Students should bring: yarn, needles, blunt tapestry needle, crochet hook.
Homework: Use plain, light-colored yarn throughout. Worsted weight works best. Block both swatches. 1. Work an approximately 3" x 3ΓÇ¥ square swatch in stockinette, then bind off. 2. Cast on 24 stitches: work in stockinette until the piece measures 3" in length. DO EXACTLY AS WRITTEN: do not slip stitches and do not work short rows. (You are shaping a round neck, in case you wonder what is going on.) At the beginning of the next RS row, bind off 6 stitches. At the beginning of the next RS row, bind off 3 stitches. At the beginning of the next RS row, bind off 2 stitches. At the beginning of the next 3 RS rows, bind off 1 stitch. Work 8 rows straight. Bind off all stitches.
Homework will be mailed with class ticket.

Technique (knitting - all levels)
Sunday, June 12, 2011 · 8:00 am - 10:00 am Sponsored By: TNNA Room: C123 Admission: Member $35.00 ~ Non-Member $55.00 Speaker: Sally Melville
A knitter who spends the time and energy to make her own clothes should be rewarded with a result that makes her happy and proud. It should fit, it should flatter and there should be no mystery as to how this happened. But sadly, and too often, this is not the result. Why? Because the knitter chooses the wrong pattern OR chooses the right pattern but follows the directions without questioning them OR makes the right garment but wears it with the wrong thing. There are a few simple rules to follow for successful knitting: start with styles that flatter, knit with appropriate decisions for a personalized fit and then wear it with something that makes it look wonderful!

Sunday, June 12, 2011 · 8:00 am - 10:00 am Sponsored By: TNNA Room: C212 Admission: Member $35.00 ~ Non-Member $55.00 Speaker: Gwen Bortner
Most of us knit in one direction, but what would happen if you could knit in EITHER direction? Bobbles would pop out faster, entrelac would be even more fun, edgings would be added quicker and your yarn would be less tangled. Some call it knitting backwards, but regardless of the name, it is a great skill to have in your knitting arsenal, especially as a knitting instructor. You can learn the basics to knitting (and purling) in "the other direction" regardless of the way you knit now! All it takes, as with most things, is a little bit of practice.
Students should bring: 1 oz of smooth worsted weight yarn and appropriate size needles
