You cannot figure out what might work instead, and you have no experts nearby to help. Or you see a wonderful yarn at a wool festival, but don't know how much to buy. Or you love the yarn specified in a pattern but have a sensitivity to that type of fiber. This class will teach you how to be your own detective, translating what is written in your pattern so you can convert requirements into today's yarn availability, or identifying that "mystery" yarn that someone gave you. Thursday, June 28, 2012 · 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Instructor: Lily Chin
Materials Fee: None
Skill Level: Intermediate
Supplies to Bring: Colored construction paper, scissors, tape and/or glue, geometric shape templates like circles, triangles, etc., ruler, T-square if you have one, French Curve if you have one, square graph paper anywhere from 4 boxes to the inch to 8 or 10 boxes to the inch (one of each is even better), different colored markers and/or pencils with erasers, any swatches you have lying around or ones that you want to work xeroxed and *reduced* in several sizes less than 50%, reducing to less than 25% is even better (if you have a scanner, you can do this and print in color, even!). Make a few copies of each one/each size. Plain, white sheets of 8.5 x 11" and/or larger paper. Bring any imagery, object, ready-made garment, etc. that sparks your imagination.
Description: The subtitle is: How to do enough variations on an afghan in order to fill up a book with over 40 different and unique designs. Using my book as a reference, see the design process at work and how ideas come about. Get a feeling for the selection process when seemingly endless possibilities must be narrowed down. Find out what works, what doesn't and why, when creating larger crochet pieces. Making afghans may seem easier than garments because there's no sizing involved, but other sets of problems present themselves. This is a good ART primer; Lily found that doing afghans freed her up to concentrate on more purely visual aspects rather than garment-making aspects.

T300C-Bead Tapestry Crochet Cuff Bracelet (Crochet)
Thursday, June 28, 2012 · 9:00 AM - 12 Noon and 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Instructor: Carol Ventura
Materials Fee: $1.00-Please pay instructor on-site.

Skill Level: All Levels
Supplies to Bring: Scissors and a size 1 steel or size B crochet hook (and your own motif, if desired).

Since more than one color thread is used, each thread only needs to be loaded with one bead color, eliminating the need to load the beads in a specific sequence ahead of time! A pattern is formed on one side of the fabric by adding a bead to each stitch and on the other side the colored threads create a design. The motif does not need to be pre-planned and offers fantastic design potential. Using the single crochet stitch, create a bracelet and also learn how to design with tapestry crochet graph paper.
