TT307-Finishing Sweaters Can Be A Happy Ending
Homework: Using aran weight or heavy worsted weight yarn (suggested needle size- 4.5mm (US 7) for rib & 5.5mm (US 9) for St st. Needle size is not important - just make a nice fabric - not too tight, not too loose. Make 2 identical samples to practice with in class. Gauge is not important for samples. Using smaller needle, CO 21 sts leaving a 20” tail. Row 1: WS - p1, (k1, p1) to end. Row 2: RS - k1, (p1, k1) to end. Continue making k1, p1 ribbing for 14 rows ending with a WS row (ready to do RS row). Change to larger needles and St st for 21 rows. (The knit side is the side with the knit sts at each edge of the ribbing; the purl side is the side with the purl sts at the edge). Cut yarn leaving a 20” tail. Change to a disgusting, hideous, contrasting color and continue St st for 8 rows. Carefully slide naked & potentially unravelable sts off needle (do not bind off) winding remaining yarn around the two samples to secure for transport. Bring the 2 samples and a tapestry needle.
Supplies: Bring the two samples and a large eye needle.

TT308-Felting Five Ways
Homework: Cut the sleeves off an old wool sweater and set aside. Send the sweater body through hot wash/cold rinse to shrink. Knit 6 x 6" swatch with wool yarn, ending with 3-4 rows of cotton or other non-shrinkable yarn. Shrink in same wash as sweater. Do not pull out cotton yarn -- bring swatch and appropriately-sized knitting needles to class, along with the rest of the wool you used to knit the piece.
